African Blackwood is a true rosewood (dalbergia genus) and is considered some of the best knife and turning wood in existence. Beautiful, dark black to brown wood with very tight grain. Handles heat MUCH better than ebony without cracking. EXTREMELY dense! Rare wood that is getting more and more expensive.
We come across very small burls fairly often while milling African Blackwood, but the one type of figure that is very, very rarely seen in African Blackwood is bird's-eye. In fact, bird's-eye African Blackwood is among the rarest figure we see in any species that comes across our bandsaw. This is not something we will be able to offer often.
This set features absolutely jaw-dropping bird's-eye figure with excellent contrast.
African Blackwood, like most/all true rosewoods, is a very stable and oily wood that does not require stabilization.
These scales have been carefully dried for years and are ready to go!
Scales measure 6" x 1.5" x .25" and are sold as a set.
